Seminar: Business & Legal Issues
A free Finance and Business Legal Issues seminar will take place Wednesday, May 20 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huron Area Tech Center in Bad Axe.
This blended course is an introduction to legal and finance issues small businesses face on a day to day basis. It is designed to guide prospective business owners in setting up the organizational structure that will help protect them from unnecessary legal challenges. Content covers the different types of legal entities that are appropriate for structuring and starting a new business. Tax and liability issues, along with basic elements of a contract, collections, licenses, registrations, employment and property issues, leasing and insurance are covered. In addition, this course introduces the basics of financial management, including how to start an accounting system and how to apply the information from key financial statements to help you manage your business. Accounting language including debits and credits, preparation of the balance sheet and profit and loss statement are explained. Cash flow analysis and breakeven are also covered with specific small business examples.

Seminar: E Commerce – Introduction to Online Selling
A free E Commerce – Introduction to Online Selling seminar, offered by Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC), will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sandusky District Library in Sandusky on Tuesday, April 28, 2009.
The basics of online selling are covered in this seminar, including the purpose and goals of a web site, understanding online shopping behavior, and key considerations for optimizing online operations. Web site development options, operating costs, policies and procedures, and search engines are key components. This course is not meant to demonstrate how to build a web site, but rather as a guide to the decisions that will ensure a productive online selling vehicle for small business owners.

A free Effective Customer Service and Communications seminar is being offered by Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) Tuesday, April 21, 2009, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Delta College.

Course: Starting a Home-based or Small Business
The next 10-week program will begin January 22, 2008, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. The program teaches the basics of starting and running a small business. instructors include Kathleen Tenwolde and guest instructors form the professional community.

The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center at Delta College is pleased to present a three part workshop designed to help you build your business plan. The sessions are designed to discuss and develop an in-depth Business Plan for entrepreneurial ventures. The workshop is appropriate for both the expansion of an existing business and the start of a new enterprise. The workshop provides information and thoughts on the details necessary to develop a business plan that will help focus your attention and provide guidance in starting, expanding and maintaining a small business.
A workbook is included in the cost of the workshop that includes copies of materials to be presented, and reference materials covering considerations for starting up a business and preparing a business plan. In addition, a business plan template is provided in hard copy and electronic format for participant use.
