1) Seminar: Starting a Home-based or Small Business
This 10-week program will begin January 12, 2005, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. The program teaches the basics of starting and running a small business. instructors include Kathleen Tenwolde and guest instructors form the professional community.

Classes are at the Hoyt Main Library, 505 Janes Avenue in Saginaw. Cost of the class is $100. Partial scholarships, based upon need, are available as well as flexible payment plan. Class size is limited so register early. For more information please call Kathy at 989.754.2486.

2) SB&TDC Offers Class on Schedule C: Tax Strategies for Small Business
If you are a small business owner, you need to know about a number of tax laws, and how they affect your bottom-line. MI-SBTDC is offering a class Thursday, December 2, 2004 , from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the campus of Delta College .

This course will provide an overview of the systems and procedures small businesses need to implement tax strategies and accounting techniques that maximize profits. Learn the tax impact of choosing your legal business structure (sole proprietorship, corporation, or LLC). Understand payroll tax reporting requirements. Discover the importance of recordkeeping processes that capture allowable expenses and can lower your tax liability. Class instructors are Thomas J. Dickerson, CPA and Lisa Mahoney, who both are with the firm of Andrews Hooper & Pavlik P.L.C., Certified Public Accountants.

3) Mid Tech: Life Sciences and Beyond -- Where science, vision and capital meet, Thursday, Dec 2, 2004
This conference will showcase the Tri-Counties as a viable place for biotechnology projects to take root. The meeting runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Ashman Court Hotel in downtown Midland. The event is open to the public and costs $35 to attend. Reservations are available by calling 839-0710.

Midland Tomorrow, the city's economic development arm, is hosting the meeting, which will include speakers from Dow Corning Corp., Dow Chemical Co. and mid-Michigan colleges..

4) NXLevel "Tilling the soil of Opportunity" Jan 19 - Mar 23, 2005
Michigan State University Extension presents a nationally recognized and tested agricultural entrepreneurship program to help grow agricultural business. This program is offered in conjunction with the Michigan Small Business Development Center.

5) Entrepreneur Orientation Seminar Schedule for 2005

The Entrepreneur Orientation Seminar, a free orientation for potential business owners is being offered on the following Thursdays in 2005:
Jan 27, Feb 24, Mar 24, Apr 21, May 26, Jun 23, Aug 25, Sep 22, Oct 27 and Nov 17.

The sessions are offered from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at the Hoyt Main Library, 505 Janes Ave, Saginaw, MI.

Learn about community resources and the basics on business ownership from a local expert. Thes opportunities are sponsored by Saginaw Future, Inc., the Public Libraries of Saginaw, Saginaw County Minority Business Development Center, Small Business & Technology Development Center and the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce.
