Get your business rolling with a roundtable
SSBiN and Saginaw Vision 2020 are proud to sponsor a new event for learning and networking. This small business roundtable will feature four volunteer professionals that address questions and concerns of small business owners in a learning environment. It is also an opportunity to network with other small business owners and develop creative solutions to small business concerns. Discussion opportunities include: Legal, Accounting, Marketing and Insurance.

Who should attend: The Roundtable is specifically designed to address those companies with 10 employees or less who have been in business at least one year. The purpose is to promote the development and growth of existing small businesses. You should bring to the table questions that you may have regarding the growth and development of your business.

CONFERENCE: LEADING IN TODAY'S TURBULENT WORLD
“Leading in Today’s Turbulent World”, a sustainable approach to achieving bottom line success, will be held on Thursday, November 2nd at the MidMichigan Innovation Center, in Midland, MI.

As a result of attending this interactive program, leaders will discover ways to enable a more productive, creative, and collaborative work climate, which in turn simultaneously improves bottom line performance, customer service, job creation and retention, and employee morale. Two four-hour programs will be held on November 2nd, initially at 8:30am-12:30pm and repeated at 1:30-5:30pm.

seminar, WEDO (Women's Economic Development Outreach)
WEDO is a coalition of business experts working in collaboration to provide focused resources that help women owned and managed business flourish. The WEDO Tour is the only event of its kind for women business owners. The half-day program is packed with tips, ideas and advice from experts. Its fast-paced format delivers quick access to information of real value for women with growing businesses.

2006 WEDO Tour topics include: strategies for financial growth, acquiring professional strategic partners, finding new customers, mining your technology for dollars, funding and finance options, and more!

seminar, Fall 2006 New Business Tax
Back by popular demand, The Michigan Department of Treasury Presents Fall 2006 New Business Tax Seminars, to be held Friday, October 6, 2006, at Delta College.

The Michigan Department of Treasury is offering a series of seminars to acquaint new business owners with their rights and responsibilities relative to Michigan Sales, Use and Withholding taxes. The technical aspects of the taxes as well as tax audits, assessments, collection procedures, appeal options, penalty waivers and protection of your confidential tax information will be discussed. Speakers from the Michigan Department of Treasury will be available to answer your questions.

There is no charge for the seminar held Friday, October 6, 2006 at Delta College, 1961 Delta Road, Room N-007 Courtyard Level, University Center, Michigan. Seminar hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be on your own. You may e-mail your contact/registration information to the attention of the seminar coordinator, Martha L. Lawrence, at LawrenceM@michigan.gov. Register early as enrollment is limited. The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center at Delta College is pleased to present a three part workshop designed to help you build your business plan. The sessions are designed to discuss and develop an in-depth Business Plan for entrepreneurial ventures. The workshop is appropriate for both the expansion of an existing business and the start of a new enterprise. The workshop provides information and thoughts on the details necessary to develop a business plan that will help focus your attention and provide guidance in starting, expanding and maintaining a small business.

Course: Starting a Home-based or Small Business
The next 10-week program will begin September 13, 2006, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. The program teaches the basics of starting and running a small business. instructors include Kathleen Tenwolde and guest instructors form the professional community.

GET a loan, create a job: Job creation loan program
The State of Michigan, along with Charter One have have created the new Charter One Job Creation Loan Program. The program offers fixed, low interest loans to buy equipment or buildings. In exchange, the business must create a minimum of one full-time job within three years of the completion of the project for each $40,000 borrowed.

Reshape Your future: exploring entrepreneurship
For an opportunity to reshape your future by assessing and exploring entrepreneurship as a career alternative, check out this collaborative effort sponsored by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center network offices in Region 5 at Delta College and Region 6 and the University of Michigan-Flint. The seminar is made possible by the generous support of the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn and Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce. We are proud to offer what we expect will be the first of a number of informative and interactive workshop sessions during the upcoming year about starting or expanding your business.


We are offering two concurrent workshops, each two hours long that will explore what it takes to start a small business or expand an existing small business. Topics to be explored include marketing research, business plan development, finance, advertising and more.

In addition, we are pleased to include a session on The American Dream presented by Duperon Education. This seminar will provide insights into how the nurturing and use of entrepreneurial and innovative skills can help individuals create and grow their business and realize their dream. The session will be repeated at 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

The Reshape your Future: Exploring Entrepreneurship workshops will be held at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, MI on May 10th from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm for persons interested in starting a business and 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for those who want to expand their business or hobby. The Buzz on Bizz: business career camp for kids
For kids in 9th – 12th grades, this camp will engage students in challenging, hands-on, skill-building projects. These projects include group exercises, market research projects, and the opportunity to create new products. Creating the product(s) and discussing a business plan will introduce and demonstrate the process, issues, and factors that need to be considered when owning and operating a small business.

The Truth About Loans: Finance Roundtable
Team SBA announces another Finance Roundtable session. If you are serious about seeking financing for your business, you owe it to yourself to attend a Financing Roundtable presented by TEAM SBA. TEAM SBA consists of SBA lenders, business consultants, SBA economic development staff, and business owners like you.

We’ll debunk the myths and demystify the process of bank financing. You will
learn how your loan application will be analyzed, what underwriting criteria is used, and how banking regulations affect the decision. We will answer your questions based upon your business model. Over the last six years, TEAM SBA has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs gain a better understanding of the financing process. In order to help you, we require you to have good credit, a solid business idea and some money to invest in your business.

21ST CENTURY JOBS FUND INFORMATION TOUR
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is hosting a series of informational meetings on the 21st Century Jobs Fund initiative. This fund will be used to "jump start our economy now and diversify and grow the state's economy in the future."

The meetings will provide more information about access to the new funds to
potential business startups, researchers and product developers. Each information session will focus on presenting the program's request for proposals, proposal due dates, peer review process, eligibility requirements, funding categories, evaluation criteria and other meaningful information for potential applicants.
